If there’s one thing that I love and adore more than anything in this entire world, it’s my little family of cat children I’m raising. I love my cats so much and I love making them happy.
I love to make them feel special every day that I possibly can, but I especially love to treat them to an extra special day when it’s their birthday.
To non-pet lovers, this concept might sound a little weird, but to those of us that put our four-legged companions on a pedestal (for lack of a better word), this is something we get excited about.
I love celebrating my cats’ birthdays. It’s a really great excuse to go online and splurge on my beloved cats and buy them items that I normally pass up because I’m always thinking, “Gee, do they really need another set of crinkly balls?” Or “Do I really have room for that cat toy in my home?”
But when it’s their birthday, I tend to only care about what will ultimately make them that much happier, even if it’s just for their special day.
Celebrating your cat’s birthday doesn’t have to be hard. There are simple things you can do to make your cat’s special day even more special.
Simple things such as giving them cat treats, wet food, cool cat toys, or just spending extra time playing with them are some of the most simple ways to celebrate your feline companion’s birthday.
Table of Contents
Buy Them Some Special Cat Treats
Go out and buy your special feline some birthday treats they don’t normally get to have. With the large variety of cat treats these days, it’s easy to get overwhelmed with so many options.
Buy them something that is both healthy and also tasty such as any of the Blue Buffalo Wilderness treat varieties.
These treats are affordable and your cat will absolutely love them. Or if you already give your cat these types of treats, their birthday is the perfect time to try something new.
Buy Them Some Fun Toys
Another thing you can do for your cat’s birthday is buying them some fun cat toys. Even if they already have the latest and greatest cat toys, buy them some more cat toys anyway.
I don’t know about your cats, but my feline companions could never have enough crinkly balls, jingly balls, or squeaking mouses. Most cats will never get bored with their toys, especially if they have a large variety to chose from.
You also don’t have to go out and purchase any new toys if you don’t want to or can’t afford to. I’m willing to bet that there are plenty of things around your home that make great cat toys such as cardboard boxes or homemade cat forts.
Or you could even hang a cat-friendly string from a doorway and let your cat have their fun. They love that type of stuff and it’s so simple to do.
Feed Them a Meal of Their Favorite Wet Food
If you’ve ever given your cat a can of wet food, then you already know how most cats tend to react to it.
Most cats get really excited and display their excitement by being extra vocal and maybe rubbing up on your legs while you’re trying to open the can of food and dish it out onto a plate. (Yes, I do use plates for wet food.)
In my home, my cats don’t get fed wet food every day so when I do pop open a can of chicken and liver pate, it’s a huge treat for them.
For their birthday, dish out their wet food on special plates that are only used for that specific purpose. That’s what I do and it makes it easy for them to consume their favorite wet food without getting irritating their whiskers that sometimes happens when you just leave the wet food in the can.
Give Them Double the Attention
One really easy way to celebrate your cat’s birthday is to just simply give them double the attention that you normally give them on a regular day.
Have a few extra long petting sessions if your cat loves being petted. Play laser tag with them for even longer than you normally might. Just show them a bunch of love overall on their special day.
If you don’t normally let your cats in specific rooms, then for their birthday at least, let them accompany you to that room which they normally don’t get to go in.
For example, when it’s one of my cats’ birthdays, I will let them come into my office with me while I work, but paying close attention to them at the same time so they don’t get into something that they shouldn’t be getting into.
If you’re lucky enough to have a feline friend, you definitely know what I mean by this.
There are many ways you can celebrate your cat’s birthday without having to break the bank. You just gotta be a little creative.
After all, if you get down to the bare bones reason for celebrating your cat’s birthday, it’s really because WE want to do something special for them.
It’s very likely that your cat won’t even know it’s their birthday, let alone what a birthday even is. So, yes, we do this special birthday stuff for them, but deep down, you know it’s really for our enjoyment as well.
